In the United Kingdom, the Judge Advocate-General is responsible for the court martial process within the British Army and the Royal Air Force. All general court-martials are held by the Judge Advocate-General. Previously, to qualify, a judge had to have served for 10 years as either a barrister or a solicitor. However, in 2008, the experience required was reduced to 7 years. The Judge Advocate-General is assisted by ten civillians, who are his permenant members of staff. They provide advice to the accused and prosecution and sum up evidence for Court.
