| Royal Welsh Fusiliers |
Dates: 1689 - The Royal Welch Fusiliers were a regiment of the British Army founded in 1689. The purpose of the unit was to oppose James II and his war policy towards France. From 1702, it became known as The Welsh Regiment of Fusiliers and earnt the ’Royal’ acoloade after fighting in the War of The Spanish Succession in 1713. It is one of the oldest regiments in the regular army, which explains the archaic spelling of the name ’Welch’. During the Boer War and World War I, the Army replaced the archaic spelling with modern-day English. The archaic version was restored again in 1920. In March 2006, it became amalgamated with the Royal Regiment of Wales to became 1st Battalion, The Royal Welsh.
Memories of Royal Welsh Fusiliers
Royal Welsh Fusiliers, 1989 ter Centenary Ludlow Castle Shropshire in 2010Written by Paul William Simpson Contact this person >> "That was a great year for the 1st Battalion, it marked 300 years of History. It`s such a shame that the Battalion had disbanded in 2005 ( i think). If you want my honest opinion the old RRW cap badge does no complement the White Hackle"
