Basically built as RFC Emergency Landing ground/RAF School of Air Gunnery in 1917.
Civil Aviation in 1920 with hangers as MOD storage.
Short Bros test facility in 1920
RAF summer use in 1926
Civil aviation in 1927
Operational in 1936
Care & Maintenance in 1938
Transferred to Admiralty as HMS Buzzard in1939. re-named HMS Daedalus in 1940.
Transferred to RAF in 1940
Joined by Operational units in 1942.
