HMS Goodson

Dates: 1943 - 1944

HMS Goodson (K480) a Captain class frigate, was laid down as USS George at the Boston Navy Yard, assigned to the Royal Navy under the Lend-Lease programme she was commissioned as HMS Goodson on 9 October 1943. Complement: 156.

She served on escort and patrol duty in the Atlantic and along the English coast. She supported the Allied Invasion of Europe at Normandy on 6 June 1944.

HMS Goodson was torpedoed on 26 June 1944 by U-984 approximately 38 nautical miles (70 km) south of Portland Bill. There were no fatalities. Badly damaged, she was towed back to port and assessed as a Constructive Total Loss.
