  Dates: 1939 - 1946 PORPOISE Class submarines ordered on 1st May 1935 from Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow and laid down on the same day. This minelaying submarine was launched on 21st July 1936 and was the 1st major RN warship to bear the name, although it had been used by Z-Class Whaler (Z10) during WW1. Build was completed on 2nd February 1937 and this submarine was then commissioned for service in the 4th Submarine Flotilla on the China Station where she was still deployed on the outbreak of war in September 1939. Following a WARSHIP WEEK campaign for National Savings in February 1942 she was adopted by the civil community of Weymouth, Dorset. Badge on a Field Blue, a rorqual Proper.
