 Dates: 1936 - 1940 There are two ships with this name. Dunvegan Castle (1896 - 1923) Built by Fairfield SB Co, Govan for Donald Currie’s Castle Line.Taken over for war service in 1915 and converted to a hospital ship.Returned to her owners in 1916. Scraped in 1923. Dunvegan Castle (1936 - 1940) Launched on 26th Mat.1936 by Harland & Wolff, Belfast for Union-Castle Mail SS Co. she was used on the South Africa Mail service.Taken over for war service in 1939 as an Armed Merchant Cruiser and torpedoed by the German submarine U.46 in 1940
