MOD Harrogate

Added on 06/08/2010

MoD harrogate was the Supply Branchs northern Procurement establishment.

Originally, the buildings at the top of St Georges Road had been a military hospital - of "hostilities only" construction, mainly serving the RCAF squadrons of Bomber Commande based in the East Yorkshire area - RAF Marston Moore, Dishforth, Leeming, Linton on Ouse and Church Fenton etc.

This accounts for the wide corridors, the single glazed metal framed windows, the appallingly ineffective central heating and the strange sizes of the offices and communal rooms. Activity was made inefficient by virtue of the Contracts Branch stubbornly refusing to move out of London and by Harrogate beiong nowhere near the focus of military aviation, but it had a great spirit about it and was a lovely posting.
