HMS Otus (S18)

Dates: 1962 - 1991

HMS Otus (S18) was a Royal Navy Oberon class submarine. Built by Scott’s of Greenock, she was commissioned in 1963. Crew: 68.

The first commission of HMS Otus included large-scale missile trial exercises in the Atlantic Ocean and visits to the United States and Halifax, Canada.

HMS Otus was decommissioned in 1991 and sold for scrap.

She was subsequently purchased from Pounds yard in Portsmouth by a German entrepreneur, who moored her in the harbour of the town of Sassnitz on the island of Rugen in Germany to act as a floating naval museum.
