Completed in 1998 by VSEL at Barrow-in -Furness, HMS Ocean is the only ship of her class and the first of the new breed of assault ship. Classified as Landing Ship (Platform, Helicopter) (LPH) her role is to transport Royal Marines Commandos with all their supporting equipment and be able to land and recover them using troop carrying helicopters.
