HMS Archer

Dates: 1941 - 1946

HMS Archer, was a Long Island class Escort Aircraft Carrier, built by the US and operated by the Royal Navy during the Second World War.
Builts in 1939 as USS Mormacland, commissioned in 1941 and lent to the RN she suffered major engine problems which led to her not entering actual service until 1943. She was used as a stores hulk in 1943, an accommodation hulk in 1944 and eventually was used by the Ministry of War to ferry aircraft as Empire Lagan.
She was transferred to the US Navy in 1946.
In 1946 she was sold to merchant service, Sweden Anna Saelen, 1955 Greek Tasmania and 1961 Taiwan Union Reliance.
She was scrapped in 1962.
Other vessels known as HMS Archer range from 1801 to the Fast Patrol boat, commissioned in 1985 and still in service today.
