Dates: 1944 - 1961

The H.M.S MODESTE was a 6th of the line named Sloop ship, which belonged to the ’Black Swan’ class of ships.

The Black Swan Class Sloop was an improved Egret Class ship, but larger and slightly faster.

The ship had a displacement of 1350 Tons and was launched from the Chatham D/Y shipyard, on 29/01/1944.

The ship was sold for scrap in St.Davids in 1961.

The first of the line was a 3rd rate 64 French captured on 18/08/1759 off Lagos, it did Harbour service until 08/1778 and was broken up in 08/1800.
