Dates: 1944 - 1963
HMS Loch Alvie (K428) was a Loch-class anti-submarine frigate built by Barclay, Curle & Company of Glasgow and commissioned on 10 August 1944. Complement: 104.
She was loaned to the Royal Canadian Navy and served as HMCS Loch Alvie in the role of convoy escort, mostly on convoys between Iceland and Murmansk. She was decommissioned from the RCN on 11 June 1945 and returned to the Royal Navy.
HMS Loch Alvie participated in the search for the lost submarine HMS Affray in 1951.
A detachment of Royal Marines from HMS Loch Alvie helped to defend Kuwait during the confrontation with Iraq in the crisis of 1961.
Loch Alvie became beyond economical repair after a speed trial in Singapore in 1963 and the crew transferred to HMS Loch Lomond. She was cannibalised for spares in 1965. The crew referred to their new ship as HMS Loch Almond.
