Dates: 1932 - 1968

Type II HUNT Class Escort Destroyer ordered from Swan Hunter at Wallsend on 4th September 1939 after the outbreak of WW2 under the 1939 War Emergency Programme. The ship was laid down as Job No 4133 on 21st November that year. The ship was launched on 30th September 1940 as the first R N warship to carry the name, She was completed on 27th April 1941 and following; a successful WARSHIP WEEK National Savings campaign in March 1942, was adopted by the civil community of Southgate, then in the county of Middlesex. During her most extensive war service this ship was awarded no less than 11 Battle Honours, a quite remarkable achievement
