HMS E5

Dates: 1913 - 1916

British E class submarine. Complement: 30. HMS E5 had an engine room explosion on 8 June 1913 20 days before commissioning. 3 were killed and 9 seriously injured.

She worked with HMS E1 to reconnoitere the Skagerrak route prior to sending submarines into the Baltic to form the 9-boat Baltic Flotilla

E5 failed to return from patrol in March 1916 and it is believed that she was last seen by the German cruiser Regensburg near the Western Ems minefield.
