HMS Dundas

Dates: 1956 - 1983

The HMS DUNDAS was a Frigate ship which belonged to the Royal Navy Blackwood class frigates of ships.

These type 14 frigates were cheaper and quicker to build than that of the Whitby class (Type 12) They were ordered by the Admiralty in march 1951.With the first completed in March 1956 HMS Dundas.

Due to them being of simple design they had limited usage, compared to other frigates. But they did perform well in Anti Submarine exercises, this mainly being due to them having continued periods of time in training compared to the crews of other Frigates which were constantly being used so their training was interrupted.

The ship was the 2nd of the line - the 1st being a RCN Corvette launched on 25-07-1941 and sold on 23-10-1945.

The ship had a displacement of 1,180 Tons and was launched from the White(Cowes) Shipyard on 25/09/1953.

She was later scrapped on 04/1983 at Troon.
